Bird Marella principal Jeremy D. Matz has authored a feature article in the April 2014 issue of The Federal Lawyer, the prestigious official publication of the Federal Bar Association.
Mr. Matz’s article, entitled “How Your Client Can Get An Evidentiary ‘Pass’ For His Alleged Prior Misconduct,” focuses on the impact of a recent Court of Appeals interpretation of one of the most important rules of evidence for federal trial lawyers: Federal Rule of Evidence 404(b). The appellate ruling has broad ramifications that favor individual and corporate defendants in all kinds of federal cases. Capitalizing on his experience as a federal prosecutor and professor of evidence, Mr. Matz guides the reader through these ramifications and explains how lawyers can secure the benefits of the ruling for their clients. In the process, Mr. Matz makes complicated and abstract evidentiary principles simple and easy to apply for trial practitioners.
