Bird Marella is proud to announce the elevation of Naeun Rim to principal, effective January 1, 2019. Naeun previously served as of counsel to the firm and concentrates her practice on white collar criminal defense, complex civil litigation, and internal investigations.
Since joining Bird Marella in 2016, she has won major victories for her clients in several arbitrations and multimillion-dollar civil cases and secured acquittals, dismissals, and favorable sentencing results in high-profile criminal matters.
“Naeun is an outstanding attorney with trial experience beyond her years,” said Bird Marella Managing Principal Paul Chan. “We are thrilled to have her on our team and warmly welcome her as a principal of the firm.”
Before joining Bird Marella, Naeun served as a trial deputy at the Federal Defender’s Office in Los Angeles, where she first-chaired numerous high-stakes felony jury trials and appeared in hundreds of federal criminal cases.
Bird Marella Senior Counsel A. Howard Matz added, “I served as a federal judge for 15 years and consider Naeun to be one of the best law clerks with whom I have ever worked. I am pleased, but not at all surprised, that the firm has recognized just how skillful a lawyer she is by now promoting her to principal.”
In addition to her practice, Naeun is a Fellow of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) Leadership Advancement Program, and she was Public Counsel’s first-ever Proskauer Rose Civil Justice Fellow. She received her B.A. from Columbia University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School.
“I am honored to be named a principal of Bird Marella,” said Naeun, “where I have learned and litigated alongside such well-respected leaders in the legal profession. I look forward to following in the footsteps of excellence.”
