Bird Marella is pleased to announce that Michael C. Landman, Christopher Jumin Lee, and Kimberly A. Meyer have been elevated to partner, effective January 1, 2025.
Managing partner Paul Chan states, “We are extremely proud of this group of attorneys, whose diverse strengths and practice specialties are instrumental to Bird Marella’s continued success. We look forward to each of them playing a vital role in the firm for years to come.”
A former federal prosecutor with first chair trial experience, partner Michael Landman devotes a significant portion of his practice to white collar criminal defense. His recent successes include a full acquittal on behalf of Autonomy’s former vice president of finance, Stephen Chamberlain, in what is regarded as one of the largest fraud prosecutions ever brought by the DOJ. The trial win was honored as the Most Important Court Case of the Year at the 2024 Global Investigations Review Awards. He followed that case with a complete defense victory in a multimillion-dollar contract dispute arbitration between two prominent real estate brokerages.
A South Korean native and U.S. trial lawyer, partner Christopher Jumin Lee’s ability to navigate disparate business cultures makes him a unique asset in high-stakes, cross-border disputes. As one of exceedingly few South Korean nationals who has served as lead counsel in U.S. trials, Mr. Lee is an integral part of Bird Marella’s thriving Korea Practice Group. Mr. Lee also has extensive experience in the blockchain industry, litigating complex disputes involving security breaches, decentralized autonomous organizations (“DAOs”), and coin offerings. Mr. Lee has a strong commitment to pro bono advocacy and was honored with the ACLU’s Humanitarian Award in 2021. In 2024, Mr. Lee represented a Korean-American apparel company in a two-month jury trial against multi-level marketing company LuLaRoe, ultimately securing a $164 million verdict in his client’s favor.
Partner Kimberly Meyer is an accomplished litigator focusing on high-profile entertainment disputes, complex business litigation, and intellectual property matters. She has earned Law360’s Rising Star award in Media & Entertainment and a coveted spot in Variety’s Legal Impact Report. Among Ms. Meyer’s notable successes include the representation of Scarlett Johansson in a widely publicized lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company over her contract for the Marvel film Black Widow. Ms. Meyer was also part of the trial team that obtained the largest award in the history of profit participation arbitration concerning the hit television series Bones.
