The Honorable Hernán D. Vera, a former principal at Bird Marella, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a United States District Judge for the Central District of California.
During his time at Bird Marella, Judge Vera was a sought-after civil litigator specializing in complex commercial matters, including consumer law and class actions. He also maintained an active pro bono practice, leveraging his previous role as President and CEO of Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono law firm.
Judge Vera has developed an outstanding reputation within the legal community, particularly for his tireless efforts in advocating for underrepresented constituents in Latinx and other minority communities.
Judge Vera is the second Bird Marella lawyer to serve as a federal judge, following founding principal Judge A. Howard Matz, who served on the District Court bench for nearly 15 years.
